What Are Good Choices to Live By?

Good choices from an idealistic perspective

An idealist's perspective on good choices is basically an archetypal idea that tends toward perfection. It is like reaching as high as one can possibly can, with the expectation of achieving results. Aiming high in terms of choices is always preferable to aiming low.

Good choices to consider might include the following:

Life:

Choose life over death because life is sacred. If everyone in the world considered life as sacred, no one would seek to take another person's life, for any reason. In fact, each person in the world would work towards sustaining every other person's life.

Love God and fellow man:

Choose to love God and one another, as well as yourself. The Christian ideal has been established by the introduction of Christianity into the word. It is rooted and grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Liberty:

Choose liberty over non-liberty. God allows each one of us the freedom to make choices. Claim the freedom of choice as yours, as well as freedom of body, mind and spirit. Recognize the reality that liberty is one of your basic human rights.

Law:

Choose law as opposed to living outside the law, because by living a life under the law, there is more likely to be peace in your life. Living a life outside of the law of God and the government can cause immense problems for you and others. Remember that Jesus offered freedom from the law, but at the same time, He taught that the love and respect for God and fellow man, still requires living life guided by the law or the Ten
Commandments. He did not advocate living outside governmental law either.

Light:

Choose living in the light rather than living in the darkness, because when you walk in the light, you will see the truth of reality. Live by truth rather than untruth and teach others to do the same.

Learning:

Choose learning over non-learning because it will enhance your life and the lives of others. Learning will help a person to make better choices in life. Teach what you have learned to others.

Laughter:

Choose laughter because it will make your life happier. Besides that, it is much more fun to live that way!

Limits:

Choose to set limits because by setting limits, you allow yourself moderation in life. Moderation in all things is a good rule of thumb to follow.

Links:

Choose to have links to people. Make direct contact and maintain positive relationships with them. We were not created to live in total isolation from each other. Maintaining links with family and friends in one's community or place of employment is a good idea. Networking is a great way to stay in touch with people.

Lemonade:

Choose a good drink of lemonade with just a little bit of sour lemon, now and then. As a rule of thumb, a healthy balance of sweetness and sourness in life makes for healthy living. Make healthy lifestyle choices and you will feel better and better about yourself, as well.

Luxury:

Choose luxury over non-luxury, as that would appear to be preferable, but always try to remember that while some luxury can be a good thing, too much luxury can blind us to the needs of others.
Problems can arise with arise when one consistently makes wrong choices.

Consider the alternatives:

Laziness:

Choose to work instead of not working. When one chooses to work, significant goals can be reached. Work never hurts a person, but laziness as a habit or regular life style, may be harmful to one's health.

Loss:

Choose gain, instead of loss, as it is a wiser choice. But, be aware that in choosing gain, we can wind up with loss and vice versa.

Loneliness:

Choose to allow others to share your life rather than trying to exist alone, as it will make your life more enjoyable. Loneliness can be devastating.

Lust:

Choose not to lust over money, valuables, property or sex and you will find that your life is more content. Lust leads to jealously, greed and increased unhappiness.

Licentiousness:

Choose moral and legal restraints, as living rightly will prove to be a blessing to you and others in the end.
Remember that not everyone is an idealist. Practicality must be considered, but when a person aims as high as one possibly can, even if he or she falls short, a higher ideal will have been reached than if one only set goals that were lower.

So, make good choices to live by rather than bad ones. You will be glad that you did.
